The soft splashing of stardust and mechanical debris as they drool into the sand and water around me drowns the ocean's crashings until my inquiries create total sound Nearby, a clockwork spider spins in constant coils around tonight's dinner and below me, fish of varying color notice me, nod politely, then continue in their steady pursuits. In streaks and splashes of metallic gleam traffic slows and stops in rush hour's halt; unsatisfied haste causes drivers to fidget and sound their horns for private justice. They seem born to a different Earth and they continue to drive in waves toward the thinning red horizon until their solar chaperon will slip away and by her absence, will open the gate for ambitious sailors. Within the hour, the sky and ocean will meet and rise together in violet to rule as one over a dreamscape of progression. So I pass time with the fishes waiting to ask mother about the process of atomics, love, and life after death.
